The jazzman extraordinaire, winner of three Grammys and seven gold records, Ramsey Lewis revisits his classic ‘70s album The Sun Goddess (and a few other funky favorites) with his electric band— guitarist Henry Johnson, keyboard player Michael Logan, drummer Charles Heath and bassist Joshua Ramos. Opening the show will be Strathmore Artist in Residence, soul electric guitarist Nate Foley. There is also a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm, Education Center Room 402 on the relationship between gospel music and jazz with Dr. Sais Kamalidiin, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Music at Howard University.

The D.C. Jazz Lofts’ celebrates their 1 year anniversary on Sunday. December’s jazz loft features a Battle of the Saxes with a ferocious lineup including the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra’s saxophone section who will duke it out in a friendly fight to the death, and jazz loft stalwarts the Jolley Brothers and the talented Michelle Webb. At the end of January, Red Door will shut down, and the lofts will have to relocate.
