Hello Beautiful People….Happy Monday! 🙂
We are going to kick-off Black Music Month with two awesome vocalists.
Enjoy this beautiful tune from jazz artist, Gregory Porter. Those who follow me know he is one of my favorite artists. Check out this live performance from Gregory Porter at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival (May 1-6). Every year, the Cheltenham Festival invites the world’s finest musicians, writers, scientists, performers and thinkers to entertain and inspire festival audiences of all ages. Through cutting edge and creative programming, Cheltenham’s four inspirational festivals– Jazz, Science, Music and Literature–have been at the fore-front of UK’s cultural scene since the inaugural Music Festival in 1945. Porter is the artist in residence for this year’s festival.
And I can’t wait to see Gregory Porter at the Capital Jazz Fest on June 8th!
Another stand out at the festival was Laura Mvula, a singer who is touted as the one to watch in 2013. Last year, Mvula released her EP, “She”. And she has now followed up in March with her debut studio album “Sing to the Moon”. Her single “Green Gardens” is an ode to where she grew up. I love the song and the video!
I recently found her rendition of MJJ’s “Human Nature”. Not too many can take a classic and do it justice, but Mvula made it her own.
When you can, check out Laura Mvula’s debut album, “Sing to the Moon”.
Also, remember to hit up the DC Jazz Festival this month. There are some great performers for this event.
Have a great week everyone! 🙂
