ThatKellieGirl was in the building to experience the amazing artistry and creativity of artist, producer, composer, pianist, performer, DJ (I think I got it all) Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL). Known as a devastating live performer, MdCL brought his very successful event “Church” back to DC. And if you weren’t there, you missed it!
Born and raised in New Zealand, and now based in Los Angeles since 2009 after residing for years in London, MdCL has built a solid reputation as a key musician in the Broken Beat and Nu Jazz movements, blending jazz, ethnic music and urban grooves. And at his event “Church”, you get to see all the magic in the making.
Using drum machines, keyboards, effects and singers, live remixes are birthed on stage right in front of you. To help out with the process, his sweet and soulful wife, Nia Andrews provided vocals for the evening, and shared new music from her upcoming new EP. A force in her own right, Nia Andrews is a singer and songwriter who has written for, recorded, toured and/or performed with Common, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Big Boi, B.o.B, and Bruno Mars to name a few.
ThatKellieGirl was also loving Ms. Andrews’ fashion style. She was wearing a beautiful African-inspired jumpsuit from Boxing Kitten. She was quite fabulous! 🙂 Also performing at “Church” was DC’s own Kokayi, whom you can catch this weekend (12/15) at the Rock n’ Roll Hotel performing new music. And off of the release of her debut solo album, “Navasha Daya: Rebirthed Above Ground”, Navasha Daya was also in the house for the “Church” experience.
