The NeoSoul Hippie RnB RockStar better known as Raheem DeVaughn has come out with the Freedom Fighter MixTape.
Inspired by his recent arrest alongside Dr. Cornell West, and 18 other participants for protesting with Occupy DC, Raheem described his experience as one of the most enlightening moments of his life. So to bring awareness to be the change one wants to see, Raheem Devaughn and DJ Money presents “The Freedom Fighter” featuring all of his socially conscious B-Sides with appearances from : Jill Scott, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Min. Louis Farrakhan, Dr. Cornell West, Anthony Hamilton, Chrisette Michele, and others.
Throughout his career, Raheem has always had socially conscious message in all of his music. However, for me, recent rumors of sexual escapades and sexually explicit videos began to overshadow his beautiful voice and his lyrics of pride and love. His signature songs such as My People, Woman, Guess Who Loves You More, You and Bulletproof are the songs that made and keep me a fan. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good love song from Raheem, but it’s nice he changed it up a bit.
