It’s all about Hip Hop this week in D.C.!
Tonight (7/11) kicks off the Hip Hop Theater Festival, celebrating 10 years! There will be an opening reception at Marvin (2007 14th Street NW) at 6PM, no cover, featuring DJ Stylus the Vibe Conductor. DJ Jahsonic’s “The Main Ingredient” set will follow right after so be prepared to make it a long night! EARLY ARRIVAL STRONGLY SUGGESTED.

Tomorrow (7/12) will be a celebration of the life and music of J Dilla. The 6th Annual J Dilla Tribute & Fundraiser at the 9:30 Club (815 V St NW) will have a full live band with DC’s most prolific musicians (Gods’Illa, Wes Felton, Maimouna Youssef, Kaimbr, Flex Matthews) and special guest The Pharcyde to reproduce some of J Dilla’s best work. Get your ticket for 20 bucks here. Show starts at 8:30PM.
Lastly, the documentary about A Tribe Called Quest, Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest, opens at E Street Cinema on Friday (7/15).
As a prelude to the film opening and a tribute to ATCQ, ABSOLUTLY NATIVE is going down with fourth founding ATCQ member Jarobi. It will be at the Warehouse Loft (411 New York Ave. NE) on Thursday (7/14) at 8PM, no cover.
