First Listen

NPR is alright with me!  Ya’ll better get hip.  For your listening pleasure, NPR is streaming the album, “Wake Up!” by John Legend and the Roots.

John Legend is bringing his politics to the forefront of his music.  And might I say, this is some of the “sexiest” political singing I have ever heard.  It’s preachy, but it’s smooth going down.  I guess that is what you have to do to get some people’s attention (and sell records).  I commend John Legend for at least getting people to think about social and political issues.  The next step is to get listeners involved.

Look for their live streaming performance “Unstaged: An Original Series from American Express” on September 23rd.  It will be directed by Spike Lee.

Also, @johnlegend tweeted his pre-album release party for Wake Up! is this Thursday, September 16th at The Park   (a precursor to the CBC events  beginning on Wednesday).

The Strong Songs:

“Compared to What”- One word, “FUNKY”

“Our Generation”–Loving the cameo from CL Smooth!

“Little Ghetto Boy”– Loving Black Thought– the voice, the strong lyrics what more can you ask for

“Humanity (The Way Love Should Be)” — Love the reggae groove

“Wholy Holy”– The sexist politically conscious songs I ever heard, but what would you expect from a  Marvin Gaye rendition

“Shine”– A lifting, gospel song

The album will be released on September 21st!  Check it out.
