Freedom Friday

ThatKellieGirl, the Impressionist Artist

Hello Good People!

My weekend is starting off right.  Yesterday, my girlfriend and I took a painting class through Living Social.  Both of us love art and have dabbled in painting.  So for my birthday, we took the class.  First off, let me say that the Living Social Building (918 F St NW) is a FUN HOUSE.  Not only were they teaching art classes, they were teaching burlesque classes and hosting a happy hour karaoke night.  The building is huge and all the Living Social staff were very nice and helpful.  I definitely will be back.  If you get a chance, check it out.

During the art lesson, I quickly found out that I did not have the skills to duplicate the painting like my girlfriend.  So, I decided to “interpret”  and create a different painting.  When the art teacher viewed my progress, he said I did a good job, but as soon as he saw my girlfriend’s painting he said her painting was “TERRIFIC!”  Then he quickly turned back to me to say my painting was still good. *giving art teacher the side eye*

Seriously though, my girlfriend did a great job.  She has some skills and she taught me some techniques.  However, I still love my painting.  This is a great example of how people see things differently, but their views can be equally valuable, relevant, and beautiful to the world.

Like an excited kindergarten student, I proudly presented my painting to my fiance as a gift.  He loved it! 🙂  I am quite excited to take another lesson.  Who knows, I might be the next great artist! 🙂

I know you are ready for the weekend.  So start it off right tonight , Chante Moore will be performing at the Howard Theater, and Kindred and the Family Soul will be at the Birchmere.   Also, check out the Capital Fringe Fest before it closes out this weekend.

And don’t forget, The London Olympics Opening Ceremony kicks off at 9 p.m. London time (4 p.m ET) TODAY, July 27, but will be broadcast on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Have a great weekend!

Peace and Blessings,

ThatKellieGirl 🙂
