Freedom Friday: The President’s Speech Edition

Hello Good Folks!

Whether you agree or not agree with the American Jobs Act, President Obama came with it last night.  He presented a solid plan, but he also let Congress know that he’s not playing nice anymore.  When you are elected President, you have at least four years to work your plan.  And President Obama has accomplished a lot that he isn’t given credit or is flat-out ignored.  Besides, if anyone watched the GOP debates, I think we need to be concerned about their plan for Americans.  Especially when you have a candidate like Rick Perry who calls social security a “Ponzi scheme” and proudly defends the execution of 234 people in Texas, more than any other Governor in modern times.  I guess they haven’t learned the lesson about what happens when we use divise language and untruths to win at all costs.  I don’t believe in bully politics, but I do believe in being assertive.  And I believe President Obama finally got the memo.

And as a group of my friends watched President Obama finish his speech, we all wished Obama could have dropped the mic Randy Watson style

Freedom Friday: Living Beneath Your Means Edition

Hey Good People,

Happy Friday!

If you have been following the news, you have heard about the feud over the debt ceiling.  In order for the U.S. to meet all its obligations, entitlements, discretionary spending and everything else required to run our government, we need to borrow to stay afloat.  So if we don’t raise the debt ceiling, the government could default on its debt, which has never happened in U.S. history.  U.S. Treasury bonds are held around the world, so a U.S. default would create economic chaos.  This is pretty scary stuff folks (at least to me).

I believe that unfortunately we have to raise the debt ceiling.  However, afterwards, we have to change our spending habits and focus on debt reduction. What a novel idea!

Seriously, we all need to take personal inventory of our individual debt ceiling.  As I learned growing up (and still mastering), learn to live beneath your means.  So you might have to cut off that cable for a while and grab a book….hop on the bus or your bike to get around town….. cook dinner at home, then  eat those left-overs for lunch….instead of going out to dinner, have a cook-out in the park with friends.  Hmmm….Doesn’t sound too bad to me! :-)

One way to save when hanging out is to check out the Fort DuPont Park Concerts .  It is a FREE event and kicks off this Saturday.  And if you have enough in your budget,  you can get a ticket for the Carter Barron’s Summer Concert Series.  It is still going strong with Lakeside, Brick and the BT Express on Saturday.

Keep maintaining out there.  Peace and Blessings, ThatKellieGirl :-)

Something Stinks

A 20 point lead….$13 million war chest….  What’s going on Senator Bayh?  He says that the Congress isn’t operating as it should.  I actually think he might have a point there.  I mean, President Obama held up his end of the bargain, and the Democrats are in there.  Why aren’t you supporting President Obama?  Why can’t Democrats seem to come together to determine what they will accomplish collectively?  Voters are looking for some  more deliverables, and they are still waiting to see what Democrats are going to do.  Folks are getting impatient and very frustrated dealing with this recession, and waiting for some relief.

However, that’s too easy of an out Senator Bayh.   As the old folks used to say, this is a set-up.  I don’t think we have seen the last of the Senator from Indiana.  And how ”Mr. Executive-at-Heart” returns will reveal the whole story.  Regardless of what the Senator decides to do though, this just looks REALLY, REALLY bad for the Democrats. However, I am still rooting for President Obama. I am one of the few that wants President Obama to succeed.  Because when he succeeds, we ALL succeed.  So, the ball is still in your court Democrats.  What’s your next move?
