Seersucker Bike Ride

ThatKellieGirl and the Fiancé posing at The Seersucker Bike Ride and Social on June 9, 2012.

Hello Good Folks!

If this weekend is any indication of my summer, then ThatKellieGirl is going to have a blast! :-)   On Saturday, I took to the streets with my seersucker suit and bike to attend the 2012 Seersucker Bike Ride and Social.  The annual event is Jazz Age inspired,  fashionable bicycle ride through DC.  The year, the ride began at Fort Reno Park and ended at the beautiful Hillwood Estate, Museum and Garden.  The day was gorgeous as well as the beautiful upper northwest neigborhoods we rode through on our way to Hillwood.

Freedom Friday: Spring Forward

Good Morning Good Folks!

It’s time to welcome spring weather this weekend with the start of daylight savings time.  I am not too excited about losing the hour of sleep, but I am willing to trade it in for more daylight.  I find it funny that daylight savings time was proposed by a New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson who valued after-hours daylight to collect insects.   His idea was initially ridiculed, but in 1927, with political support, it was successfully adopted.  Like Hudson, I also enjoy after-hours daylight. I feel like I haven’t lost the whole day to job when I walk outside and the sun is still shining.  I still have some of the day to enjoy.  So KUDOS to Hudson who believed we should have more daylight to enjoy our after work activities.  :-)    And you can get started this weekend!

Also remember when you change your clocks to change the batteries in your smoke detector also! :-)

Peace and Blessings, ThatKellieGirl

Freedom Friday: The Speak Life Edition

Hello Good People!

I hope you are enjoying your day off.  I sure am.  It really came right on time for me.

Earlier this week, I received an email from The Soul Power Coach, Ms. Adrienne.  She sent a message about the importance of “speaking life” to one another.  She wrote about how her beautiful Grandmother provided an example of speaking life to the people she meets each day.  This really struck a chord with me.As I have started new endeavors– my blog, hosting events, learning new skills– I have had many people “speak life” or encourage me to keep doing what I am doing.  However, I also have been the recipient of “not so flattering” words. Unfortunately, I believe that having a “Debbie Downer” or “Negative Ned” attitude is a learned behavior.  We have to be very aware of our thoughts and actions.  We have to guard against automatically “going into the dark room” or jumping to conclusions when we hear new ideas, thoughts or endeavors.  It is very important that we encourage each other in positive pursuits.  And when no one sees your vision, then you have to encourage yourself.

Life and death is in the power of the tongue.  Which language do you speak most often?

Lastly, many thanks to the veterans who have served our country and to their families whose sacrifices made this service possible.  Happy Veteran’s Day.

Peace and Blessings, ThatKellieGirl
