Music Monday

Hello Good People!

So if you are like me, you are eagerly awaiting Robert Glasper’s Black Radio to drop tomorrow.  This is going to be epic!  This album merges jazz, hip hop, rnb and funk into a soulful and organic experience.  He also has a great line-up of featured artists: Erykah Badu, King, Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, Ledisi, Yasiin Bey, Meshell Ndegeocello, Lupe Fiasco, Chrisette Michele, and Musiq Soulchild. If that doesn’t get you excited, then I can’t help you.

If you want a sneak peak of the album, get a First Listen here at NPR

And until you can make the album your own, check out this awesome Bossa Soula Remix from Ahmed Sirour of Robert Glasper’s song  “Move Love” featuring KING.  Download for free here.

DJ’s are remixing Robert Glasper’s song “Move Love” for a chance to win $500 and a royalty-free one of a kind piano sample from Robert himself. You can listen to all the submissions and vote for your favorite remix here.

So far, I can’t get away from Lalah’s cover of “Cherish The Day”.  She truly made this Sade classic her own.  “Ah Yeah” comes in at a close second…beautiful and heartfelt lyrics.  Let me know what’s your favorite single off of this awesome album.

Have a great week!

Peace and Blessings, ThatKellieGirl

Hello Good Folks!

Whether you agree or not agree with the American Jobs Act, President Obama came with it last night.  He presented a solid plan, but he also let Congress know that he’s not playing nice anymore.  When you are elected President, you have at least four years to work your plan.  And President Obama has accomplished a lot that he isn’t given credit or is flat-out ignored.  Besides, if anyone watched the GOP debates, I think we need to be concerned about their plan for Americans.  Especially when you have a candidate like Rick Perry who calls social security a “Ponzi scheme” and proudly defends the execution of 234 people in Texas, more than any other Governor in modern times.  I guess they haven’t learned the lesson about what happens when we use divise language and untruths to win at all costs.  I don’t believe in bully politics, but I do believe in being assertive.  And I believe President Obama finally got the memo.

And as a group of my friends watched President Obama finish his speech, we all wished Obama could have dropped the mic Randy Watson style

Soul Survivors

Photograph by D-Nice

D-Nice has done it again!  Off the heels of his popular “True Hip-Hop Stories” web series, D-Nice debuts a new show called “Soul Survivors” that will spotlight soul artists.  This is an intimate and insightful interview with one of the best singers out there, Bilal.   I am very geeked to get his upcoming joint, “Airtight’s Revenge” coming out on September 14th.

Leading up to his release, Bilal has been putting out some GREAT stuff.  I am still in love with his feature on “All Matter” with Robert Glasper, which was Grammy nominated.

It’s been out for a minute, but check out his most recent collaboration with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble singing Donny’s  “Someday We’ll All Be Free”.   I am rooting for you Bilal! :-)

An Interview with Bilal

One of the best male vocalist in the business is keeping his dream alive.

Check out my homegirl’s interview with Bilal.

Nichole Perkins a.k.a. “Tennessee Whiskey Woman” writes an insightful and intimate article revealing Bilal’s feelings about his leaked album “Love for Sale” to the motivation behind his most recent mixtape, “The Return of Mr. Wonderful.”

Happy Reading! :)

Check out this beautiful piece by Robert Glasper featuring Bilal which was nominated for a GRAMMY this year.  There is no denying this brother.
